After I got home from the junkyard last time, I realized that I should have bought the shocks off of that car as well. All the way back I went, and removed the front left shock which seemed to have resistance which is a good sign. The car also had a factory sway bar, which my model year did not have. I bought that too. There were some other little odds and ends that I bought was well to justify the trip.
When I got home, I drained the oil from the new shock, cleaned it out and filled it up with the same oil that the other side had. I installed the shock and took it for a ride. The car handles much better, and now both shocks holding oil and not leaking.
Attached are some interesting pictures of cars on death row. There was hardly anything salvageable left on these cars.
